Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. There are two approved preparations currently on the Greek market.
The most popular use of botulinum toxin today is in aesthetic medicine and anti-aging. It causes relaxation of the muscles where it is injected, eliminating expression wrinkles due to their non-contraction.
It is administered by injection and inhibits muscle contraction without damaging muscle or nerve fibers.
It is mainly indicated for wrinkles in the area of the forehead, between the eyebrows, and for peri-ocular wrinkles (the so-called crow's feet).
It can also be used in cases of hyperhidrosis in the armpits, hands, and soles, as well as a treatment for blepharospasm, spastic paralysis, and migraine.
